Nanoscale phase separation due to doping and electron degeneracies in iron pnictides.

Volodymyr P. Gnezdilov et al. (Journal of Nanoscience & Technology 3, 101, (2025))

At the first time, a new phenomenon was discovered - nanoscale phase separation in pure and doped samples of Ca(Fe1-xRhx)2As2 with a complex phase equilibrium controlled by the spin state of the iron ion. This state can be altered by exposure to temperature, external or chemical pressure. Thus, structural instabilities that are associated with the existence of many energy minima in the Ca(Fe1-xRhx)2As2 energy landscape may play an important role in shaping the superconductivity and magnetism features of these materials.
